MENTAL HEALTH SUPPORT

TRiM Practitioner Training

Build confident, capable peer support after traumatic events

What is TRiM?

Trauma Risk Management (TRiM) is a structured, peer-led process for supporting employees after potentially traumatic events. Developed within the military and now used widely in high-risk sectors, TRiM gives organisations a safe, consistent way to identify early signs of traumatic stress and provide timely, appropriate support.

At Resilient People, our approach bridges the military origins of TRiM with the realities of today’s workplace — making it practical, relatable and effective for staff in many industries including:

  • NHS Trusts and ambulance services
  • Police and emergency services
  • Construction and civil engineering
  • Rail and transport
  • Logistics and utilities
  • Housing associations, security and charities

TRiM is not therapy. It’s a supportive peer-based framework that helps colleagues look out for one another.

Delegate Feedback

''The opportunity to practise what we learned was invaluable.''

''The course content and the role-play over Zoom worked really well.''

Why TRiM Matters

Traumatic events can impact anyone - whether witnessing a fatality, experiencing violence, dealing with repeated critical incidents or being exposed to distress over time. Without early support, trauma can lead to long-term difficulties that affect individuals, teams and organisational culture. TRiM Practitioners help organisations:

  • Identify early indicators of traumatic stress
  • Offer supportive, structured conversations
  • Promote recovery and resilience
  • Reduce avoidable long-term impacts
  • Strengthen psychological safety

“This course gave me practical tools I can actually use. It’s been the most valuable training I’ve done in years.” — TRiM Practitioner attendee

Who is the TRiM Practitioner Course For?

The TRiM Practitioner course is suitable for any staff member who may be involved in supporting colleagues after an incident. Delegates do not need clinical expertise or a managerial role.

Ideal candidates include:

  • Frontline workers in high-risk environments
  • Health & Safety teams
  • Supervisors and team leaders
  • HR, wellbeing, and People & Culture staff
  • Control room or response personnel
  • Staff involved in incident management
  • Anyone trusted, empathetic and suited to supporting others

The key requirement is the ability to listen, communicate calmly and follow a structured process.
